our genesis

We’ve created OzHarvest Ventures to seek out ground-breaking ideas for our customers, solve global challenges and commercialise ideas for social impact. We launch, partner and help scale impact-driven businesses that complement and amplify OzHarvest’s mission.

1/3

One-third of all food produced is lost or wasted globally.

$1.3 T

Food waste costs our global economy $1.3 trillion and the Australian economy $36 billion each year.

10%

Food waste produces 10 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

When Ronni Kahn, Founder of OzHarvest started rescuing food in 2004, she didn’t know how big the waste problem was.

20 years since OzHarvest began, we now know that reducing food waste is one of the most effective solutions to addressing climate change and drawing down emissions.

At the same time OzHarvest provides much needed food relief for the growing number of people who face food insecurity, while expanding its services to education, nutrition, training, advocacy and engagement.

In 2023 we created OzHarvest Ventures to explore innovative ideas that could help to keep OzHarvest’s wheels turning, while constantly looking for new ways to address the environmental and social challenges of our time through sustainable commercial business models

The areas of impact we prioritise are:

  • building food secure communities

  • enabling stronger food sovereignty and

  • contributing to sustainable food systems

In Australia alone, an untapped $58 billion worth of business opportunities to reduce food waste exists and has the potential to benefit business, people, planet and our communities.

If you’re a business that wants to launch an idea, partner and collaborate for good, or scale your impact, please connect with us.
